Timitar 2026 brings global sounds and cultural dialogue to Agadir

Agadir is preparing to host the 21st edition of the Timitar Festival from July 23 to 25, reinforcing its position as one of Morocco’s leading cultural destinations. Held under the theme that has defined the event for more than two decades, “Amazigh artists welcome the music of the world,” Timitar 2026 will gather Moroccan, African, Arab and international performers in a celebration of cultural exchange, artistic diversity and musical heritage.

Organized under the High Patronage of King Mohammed VI, the festival has become one of Africa’s most prominent music gatherings since its creation in 2004. Over the years, it has built a distinctive identity by placing Amazigh culture at the center of a broad artistic conversation that connects local traditions with global musical expressions. This year’s edition continues that mission through a rich program spread across Agadir’s iconic Place Al Amal and Théâtre de Verdure venues.

The festival arrives at a time when cultural events across Morocco are attracting growing international attention. At Place Al Amal, the festivities will begin with Ahwach féminin Tiferkhin, followed by performances from Lartiste and Benny Adam alongside guests Sofia Marikh and Maestro. DJ Key and Moroccan music icon Najat Aâtabou will also take the stage, creating a blend of modern rhythms and popular heritage.

Meanwhile, Théâtre de Verdure will host a meeting of Mauritanian and Amazigh musical traditions through performances by Malouma and Fatima Tihihite. Their appearance reflects the festival’s commitment to showcasing artistic exchanges that transcend borders while remaining deeply connected to cultural roots.

Morocco and Africa in musical conversation

The second day will expand the festival’s focus toward the African continent, highlighting the cultural connections that link Morocco with its African neighbors.

Place Al Amal will feature performances by Larbi Imghrane, Zouhair Bahaoui, MR ID, Zina Daoudia and the Ahwach troupe of Kelaat M’Gouna. Together, these artists represent a contemporary Moroccan music scene that draws strength from its diverse traditions.

At Théâtre de Verdure, audiences will discover a broader African perspective through performances by Ivorian music legend Aïcha Koné, Makadem, the Africa United collective and Foulane Bouhssine. Their participation underscores Timitar’s role as a platform where African artistic identities meet, evolve and inspire one another.

At Place Al Amal, audiences will enjoy performances by the Ahwachs du Grand Sud, Hamid El Kasri, DJ HBrown, Lebanese superstar Ragheb Alama and the legendary Amazigh group Oudaden. Their diverse musical styles will showcase the festival’s ability to unite different artistic worlds within a shared cultural experience.

At Théâtre de Verdure, Fatema Tachtoukt, Abeer Nehme and Fatima Tabaamrant will offer a program centered on poetry, heritage and emotional storytelling. Their performances are expected to provide a fitting conclusion to a festival dedicated to preserving traditions while embracing new artistic horizons.
