Morocco’s ONEE power line network has expanded with the commissioning of a new 400 kV very high voltage transmission line linking the Chemaia substation near Youssoufia to the Médiouna substation on the outskirts of Casablanca.

The National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE) announced that the infrastructure entered service on June 28, 2026, marking a significant step in efforts to reinforce the national electricity transmission system.

Stretching 274 kilometers, the project forms part of a broader investment program aimed at modernizing, securing, and expanding Morocco’s electricity network. The project required substantial technical and human resources and represented an investment of 529 million dirhams.

The new transmission line strengthens a network that now exceeds 30,700 kilometers of high voltage and very high voltage lines, with a transformation capacity of 22,120 MVA. According to ONEE, the infrastructure will improve network performance while enhancing reliability and operational security across the national grid.

The project also supports the utility’s long-term development strategy. By 2030, ONEE aims to expand the national transmission network to 37,000 kilometers and increase transformation capacity to 35,000 MVA through the construction of additional transmission lines and very high voltage substations.

Beyond boosting electricity transmission capacity, the new ONEE power line is expected to play a central role in Morocco’s energy transition. The infrastructure will facilitate the integration of renewable energy projects, support major economic and industrial developments, and help meet rising electricity demand across the country.
